Brunei Darussalam is a nation that supports and presents itself as an Islamic country with its people committed to the Islamic teachings. In fact, Brunei Darussalam is also known as a Zikir Nation wherein there are its constitution and laws as well as customs. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Celebration stated the matter at the Supreme Committee Meeting for the National Level Major Islamic Event Celebrations and Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults for 1446 Hijrah, 15th May morning.
Yang Berhormat said celebrating the Major Islamic Events is to highlight the zikir as the country's nationhood characteristic. Hopefully this will continue throughout the generations and is dependent on our attitude today by imparting the Bruneian characteristic of an Islamic Monarchy.
The meeting among others aimed to ensure that the celebration will be handled in an orderly and perfect manner. Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence; and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge. The meeting took place at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.
